Digital Accessibility: Creating Inclusive Learning Experiences

The Office of Digital and Online Learning invite you to explore resources and upcoming training opportunities focused on Digital Accessibility and Inclusive Learning Experiences.

At Howard University, accessible learning for all students is a shared responsibility and a reflection of our commitment to equity, academic excellence, and inclusion—both on campus and online. In alignment with the Department of Justice (DOJ) Final Rule for Digital Accessibility, which requires full compliance by April 24, 2026, the University has launched an institution-wide initiative to strengthen digital accessibility across courses and learning materials.

Faculty are encouraged to visit the Digital Accessibility webpage, which offers tutorials and step-by-step guides for creating accessible content in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Adobe PDF, and Canvas, in accordance with WCAG 2.1 AA standards.

In addition to self-paced resources, faculty may schedule Digital Accessibility Office Hours with a Learning Experience Designer (LXD) for one-on-one support. Office hours are held Fridays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., excluding holiday breaks.
