Celebrating National Distance Learning Week
Howard University and the Office of Digital and Online Learning are excited to celebrate National Distance Learning Week (NDLW) on November 4-8, 2024, with a strong focus on the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and online learning. This theme is at the core of our discussion, as AI is changing online education and how we learn and teach. It's empowering educators to focus on what truly matters: fostering critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills. However, it's important to debunk myths about AI replacing human educators. Instead, it plays a crucial role in optimizing learning design, addressing systemic barriers in education, and making online learning more accessible and inclusive. By leveraging AI-powered tools, institutions can create more engaging, personalized, and equitable learning experiences for all students.
Additionally, we are thrilled to launch the DOL Pod—a podcast that will provide a unique perspective on the digital and online learning landscape. Throughout the NDLW week, our esteemed Howard experts, including Sosonya Jones, Ed.D., associate professor and program coordinator, CETLA AI ambassador, higher education leadership and policy studies, Miguel Capers, Ed.D., testing and accommodation coordinator, Etoulia Salas-Burnett, MSEd, director, Center for Digital Business, and Tamasa Nelson, M.Ed., director of online learning and instructional design, will share their insights. Special guests Alex Kumi-Yeboah, PH.D., associate professor, Department of Educational Theory and Practice, University at Albany, SUNY School of Education, and Hernandez Humberto, director of online learning and instructional design, D'Youville University, will join us for this enlightening journey. Howard's Morris Thomas, Ph.D., PMP, assistant provost for Digital and Online Learning, learning and director of CETLA, associate professor of education leadership and policy studies, is the host.
As we celebrate, we extend our heartfelt thanks to YOU for your interest and participation in this exciting week of exploring the impact of AI and online learning. Your involvement is what makes NDLW truly special.
